Bacteria vs. Virus

Ever wondered why your doctor sometimes gives you antibiotics and other times not? The type of infection, bacterial or viral, determines the type of treatment you will need.

Bacterial and viral infections can have similar symptoms like sneezing, running nose, and fever and be spread in similar ways too like touching contaminated surfaces or having close contact with people who are sick.

Most bacteria are harmless and can actually help the body digest food and even fight cancer cells. Bacteria is treated with antibiotics and rarely turn into a disease.

Viruses can’t be treated with antibiotics and can often cause diseases in the cells they attached themselves to. Immunization and antiviral medications can help cure, reduces and prevent the spread of a virus.
